Comprehension 1-month

20190409_074805Today was supposed to be a good day.

I knew what was coming.

My son Lennon has autism, this we know, but today we received his medical diagnosis through NEIS. We previously received a diagnosis from another place in Las Vegas, but apparently they don’t use a standard procedure to diagnose therefore most insurances won’t accept it.

Side note: Do your homework – our first diagnosis was a huge waste of our time.

His diagnosis? Severe Autism (aka Level 3; aka Low Functioning; aka the really sucky kind), but we knew this already.

The pediatrician, walked us through the results. The Daisy, the ADOS and CADS. Nothing unexpected, except one number. Receptive comprehension. He is at the level of a one month old.

One. Month. Old.

My son is nearly 30 months old. This one hurt. It hurt bad.

I feel so lost. I don’t even know where to begin. How do you teach comprehension?

My toddler is such a happy dude. He loves his cars, he loves to jump and he loves ‘Despicable Me.’ Yet he comprehends things at the level of a one month old.

Where do we go from here?
